Executive Committee

President

A word from the president

To introduce myself, I am a family physician who is passionate about serving my community. I am the Department Chair for Family Medicine at Trinity Hospital. I also recently had the honor of being appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee for the State of Michigan.

I am deeply looking forward to serving our community as MAPI President for 2023. I hope to make it one of the best years with plenty of career-advancing activities, community involvement, and most importantly, special memories for all of us.

Specifically, I aim to focus on increasing our membership, including more benefits of membership, and devoting more time and attention to the MAPI clinic. I believe the key to success is to establish definitive goals with a definitive plan. In the future, I hope to establish a solid foundation for years to come for all of MAPI leadership and members.

Currently, MAPI clinic is going through a Kodak moment - a sparkling and glorious history, but with a seemingly bleak future. We must bring our organization back to our roots, while simultaneously modernizing for the future.

Completely candidly, we’ve been having a hard time finding physicians to volunteer at the MAPI clinic. I propose to introduce telemedicine to increase both our patient outreach and our physician involvement. I also hope to identify potential incentives for physicians dedicating their time to the clinic, such as In-Kind contributions.

With regard to increasing our membership and including more benefits, I’ve noticed a lack of young physicians at our events. While speaking to many of these members, they told me that their main barrier to attending events is a lack of childcare. I hope to implement childcare services at MAPI events so that all of our members and their families can enjoy what we have to offer. Another goal is to introduce a mentorship program where experienced physicians can serve as mentors for younger physicians, younger physicians for residents, residents for medical students, and so on.

These are just a few examples of specific goals I hold for the future, and with your help, I hope to accomplish many more. So, please come and join us in this effort. I look forward to a wonderful year to come, and nothing is possible without you all.

Best regards,

Prakash Sanghvi, MD.
